San Diego Sockers News Release

(July 29, 2003- San Diego) Victor Nogueira, leader in every goalkeeping category in indoor soccer history, and Anthony Farace, a San Diego favorite, return to "America's Finest City" after trades made in the Harrisburg dispersal draft. The Sockers traded goalkeeper Nick Vorberg, midfielder Matthew Stewart and a first-round pick in the dispersal draft to the Milwaukee Wave for Nogueira. Farace was re-acquired by the Sockers for a second-round draft pick to Monterrey. The team also picked Harrisburg goalkeeper Chris D'Amico in the third round.

Nogueira returns to San Diego after spending 11 years with the Milwaukee Wave. In that time, he earned eight Goalkeeper of the Year awards and was named to the All-League First Team and All-Star Team, eight and nine times, respectively.

"When you get an opportunity to acquire a player who can make a difference you have to take it," said Sockers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Quinn. "Victor is a player with immense stature within the game so it was a matter of having to give up quality to get him back to the Sockers."

"I am happy to come back and play in San Diego and to work with old teammates like Brian [Quinn] and Paul [Wright]," said Nogueira. "With the off-season additions of Nino [DaSilva] and Sean [Bowers], I look forward to seeing what this team can do next year."

Farace rejoins the team, after being selected by the Monterrey Fury in the 2003 MISL Expansion Draft last week.

"Anthony Farace was a player who we had penciled in as a starter so to get him back is a huge bonus for us," said Quinn.

"I am extremely excited to know that I will be playing in San Diego this next season," said Farace. "I am a San Diego native and can't imagine leaving this city anytime soon."

D'Amico started 10 games for the Harrisburg Heat in 2002-03 and totaled 129 saves against 191 shots faced. The Kansas City native attended the University of Akron.

The San Diego Sockers begin the 2003-04 season at home against the Philadelphia KiXX on October 4. For a complete schedule and ticket information, visit www.sockers.com
