Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers (20-21) and Montgomery Biscuits (15-21) exchanged the lead five times before a Yeison Coca sacrifice fly handed Biloxi an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on Friday night at MGM Park. Sal Frelick doubled home another run in the inning to secure a 9-7 Shuckers victory.
Both offenses erupted in the first three frames. After the first two men reached in the first inning, Niko Hulsizer blasted a three-run home run the opposite way to put the Biscuits ahead 3-0. The Shuckers only needed a Cam Devanney single to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Jacson McGown broke the stalemate in the second with an RBI single to push Montgomery back ahead 4-3. Biloxi answered right back with a two-out RBI double from Thomas Dillard to straight-away center field to tie the game at four.
Hulsizer, the first batter of the third inning, collected his second home run of the day to take back the lead 5-4. Biloxi would finally take their first lead of the game with a two-run third inning. Frelick bounced into a fielder's choice to tie the game before Felix Valerio ripped a ground ball up the middle to plate the second run of the inning.
When RHP Robbie Hitt entered the game in the fourth inning, the Shuckers held a slim 6-5 advantage. Erik Ostberg worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at six. Neither team would score until the top of the sixth inning when Hulsizer recorded his fifth RBI of the game on a groundout to third. With the Biscuits leading 7-6, Brent Diaz crushed a solo home run down the left-field line to tie the game once again. Biloxi recorded the final lead change in the eighth inning off Nathan Witt (L, 0-2), in which both runs were unearned.
The bullpen shined again for Biloxi in the victory, allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings. RHP Nash Walters (W, 2-0) fired two scoreless innings out of the bullpen while RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (S, 1) retired the Biscuits in order in the ninth inning.
The Shuckers and Biscuits continue the series on Saturday at MGM Park. RHP Victor Castaneda (1-2, 2.58) will get the start for the Shuckers opposite of RHP Evan McKendry (0-1, 3.52).
