Johnston Extends Hitting Streak, But Blue Wahoos Drop Third Straight

Troy Johnston extended his hitting streak to a 12 games with a 2-for-4 night, and is now 12-for-23 through this week's series. His streak is the longest for any Blue Wahoos player this season.

The M-Braves struck right away in the first inning against George Soriano (L, 0-2), as Hendrik Clementina brought home Luke Waddell with an RBI single. Clementina, fresh off a 5-for-5 night on Friday, went 4-for-4 with a walk and is now 10-for-10 with three walks in his last 13 plate appearances.

Drew Lugbauer's RBI single in the third inning was followed by a Johnston fielding error at first base to put Mississippi ahead 3-0. Clementina greeted reliever Anthony Maldonado in the fifth with a solo homer, extending the Braves' lead to 4-0.

Jared Shuster (W, 4-3) completed 6.0 innings for his second consecutive quality start, allowing only three singles and a solo homer to Griffin Conine in the sixth inning. The lefty struck out eight batters while walking only one.

Alexander hit a two-run homer in the seventh against Andrew McInvale, and Clementina hit an RBI infield single in the eighth to highlight another two-run frame. Andrew Moritz scored on a Paul McIntosh throwing error in the ninth to bring the score to its final margin of 9-1

With the loss, the Blue Wahoos' division lead has fallen to 0.5 games over Mississippi with 25 to play in the first half.
