Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - After entering the ninth inning down by two, the Biloxi Shuckers (43-44, 9-9) used a two-run triple from Tyler Black to tie the game, a single from Jackson Chourio to take the lead and a fielder's choice in the bottom of the inning to take game three of the series against the Montgomery Biscuits (44-42, 8-9), 9-8, at Riverwalk Stadium on Thursday night. The win was Biloxi's third this year when trailing after eight innings.
The Shuckers scored in the first inning for the thirdd straight game, tallying two when Noah Campbell homered to right off Biscuits' starter Logan Workman. Shuckers' starter Christian Mejias worked around baserunners in the first and second before Ronny Simon stole second, and Tristan Peters scored on the throw in the third. One inning later, Montgomery tied the game with a solo shot from Diego Infante off the batter's eye in center.
From there, Mejias held the Biscuits scoreless, working into the sixth inning for the sixth time in 16 starts. On the other side, Workman tied his season-high with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
The Shuckers then took the lead in the seventh with an RBI single from Nick Kahle, scoring Zavier Warren from second. However, the Biscuits tied the game at three with a run of their own when Evan Edwards tripled and Johan Lopez brought him in with a double to the wall in right-center. Biloxi then retook the lead, 5-3, in the eighth with a two-run home run from Wes Clarke, his Southern League-leading 11th extra-base hit against Montgomery in 2023. In the bottom of the eighth, the Shucker brought in closer Cam Robinson after the first two batters reached with singles. Diego Infante brought the Biscuits within one with a single, and Evan Edwards tied the game with another single, this time to center. Back-to-back fielder's choices brought home two more, giving Montgomery a 7-5 lead.
The Shuckers, however, battled back one more time, using a walk to Zavier Warren and a single from Lamar Sparks to start the top of the ninth. Nick Kahle then pushed both runners into scoring position with a bunt, and Tyler Black tied the game at seven with a two-RBI triple down the right-field line. Jackson Chourio then tallied his sixth multi-hit game over his last seven with an RBI single to center, scoring Black and giving Biloxi the lead. Chourio was then brought in on an RBI single from Campbell, making it 9-7.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Biscuits brought it within one after Diego Infante scored Mason Auer with a single. However, Cam Robinson induced a fielder's choice to short, retiring Infante and giving Biloxi a wild, 9-8, win. Robinson (1-1) earned the win while reliever Nelson Alvarez (4-2) took the loss.
The two are set to meet tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium with Carlos F. Rodriguez set to start for Biloxi against lefty Mason Montgomery. The game can be heard on Cruisin' WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
