Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - Mike Broadway (0-1) plunked Rodrigo Vigil with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th in a 6-6 game and the Biscuits (53-48) lost a rough one to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Monday night at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 7-6, in extras, dropping the series opener. The loss snapped Montgomery's seven-game winning streak against Jacksonville, and ended the Jumbo Shrimp's overall seven-game skid.
Matt Krook opened for the Biscuits, and despite working around a bit of traffic, still managed to deliver a pair of scoreless frames before handing the reigns to Sam McWilliams. Nathan Lukes struck first for Montgomery, powering his fourth home run of the season over the left field wall, just over the glove of a leaping Brian Miller, to put the Biscuits up 3-0 on a three-run shot off Nick Neidert in the top of the third.
Miller would poke an RBI-single off McWilliams in the bottom of the third, but after that, the 6'7" righty got in a groove, and at one point struck out seven-consecutive batters between the fifth and seventh innings, finishing with eight overall on the night over 5.1 innings.
Thomas Milone crushed his fourth home run of the season in the fifth, and Nate Lowe his 11th in the eighth, handing the Biscuits a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth. But McWilliams would allow three singles in the bottom of the eighth, and then issued a bases-loaded walk to Peter O'Brien to cut the Jumbo Shrimp deficit to three.
Roel Ramirez was then summoned from the bullpen, and after striking out Joe Dunand, the right-hander allowed a go-ahead grand slam to Eric Jagielo on a line drive over the short wall in right field to make it 6-5, Jacksonville.
The Biscuits battled back in the ninth, however thanks to back-to-back doubles to open the inning by Jake Cronenworth and David Rodriguez. The game then shifted to extras, where Dalton Kelly smoked a line drive to third with runners and second and third, which resulted in an inning-ending double play.
Broadway came on in the bottom of the 10th, and after getting Jagielo to ground out to first, which moved Dunand to third, the former San Francisco Giant hit Justin Twine before issuing an intentional pass to Brain Schales that loaded the bases. Biscuits manager Brady Williams then brought Nick Solak in from left field to play as a fifth infielder, bringing an infielder's glove out to the left fielder, and after a mound conference with the entire infield, Broadway's first pitch plunked Vigil in the back to win a wild won for the Jumbo Shrimp.
The Biscuits will try to bounce back on Tuesday night when J.D. Martin (7-9) takes on Max Duval (2-10) at 6:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return home on Saturday, July 28 for Star Wars Night and MAX Fireworks as the Jackson Generals come to town for a five-game series. The series will also feature Bark in the Park as well as a Biscuits' backpack giveaway on Sunday, July 29, Golden Biscuits Monday on July 30, Dough Fest on Tuesday, July 31, and Military Wednesday and Business Person Specials on August 1.
