LHP Max Fried to Make MLB Rehab Start Tonight for M-Braves
July 23, 2018 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves affecting the M-Braves roster before tonight's 7:00 pm series opener against Mobile at Trustmark Park. LHP Max Fried's MLB Rehab Assignment has been transferred to Mississippi from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Fried, 24, was placed on Atlanta's 10-day DL on July 6 with a left middle finger blister. Fried made his first rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett last Wednesday, July 18, pitching 4.2 innings, striking out six and walking three on 76 pitches. Fried has accumulated a 3.92 ERA across 20.2 innings this season for Atlanta in seven games, three starts. He most recently pitched 3.0 innings July 5 against the Brewers, walking three and allowing four earned runs. The Henderson, NV native (about 16 miles southeast of Las Vegas) opened the season with Mississippi and made one start with the M-Braves on April 8 vs. Tennessee. Fried allowed three hits and three walks over 4.2 innings, fanning six in a no-decision. He was transferred to Gwinnett on April 12.
Fried made his first start with Atlanta on May 28 against the Mets in the first game of a doubleheader. He was added to the roster as the 26th man, and allowed two runs, one earned, over 5.0 innings. In his second start on June 30 at St. Louis, Fried set career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts, fanning 11 over 6.2 innings. He allowed just four hits and three walks. Fried became the seventh pitcher in Atlanta franchise history to record double-digit strikeouts within his first 15 career games, and the first to do so since Aaron Blair fanned 10 on October 1, 2015, vs. Detroit.
The Braves acquired Fried, along with INF, Jace Peterson, OF Dustin Peterson and OF Mallex Smith from the San Diego Padres in exchange for OF Justin Upton and RHP Aaron Northcraft on December 19, 2014. The Padres originally selected the lefty in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2012 draft.
The Mississippi Braves roster currently stands at 25 active players, one MLB rehab and four on the DL.
