Demeritte, Wilson Earn Weekly Honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, July 22nd. Mississippi Braves left fielder, Travis Demeritte and right-handed pitcher, Bryse Wilson have been selected for the weekly awards.

Demeritte, the 23-year old left fielder, garners Mississippi Farm Bureau Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after finishing the week with a .300 AVG (6-for-20) along with 2 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI and 1 BB combined with a .333 OBP, a .700 SLG and a 1.033 OPS in five games played. The highlight of Demeritte's week came in the top of the ninth inning of Thursday's road contest against the Montgomery Biscuits when he blasted a two-run home run, leading the M-Braves to a 2-0 victory over the Biscuits, their first against the Biscuits in 2018.

For the season, Demeritte has registered a slash line of .221/.309/.403. Through 92 games played with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, Demeritte has collected a total of 41 R, 68 H, 15 2B, 4 3B, 11 HR, 44 RBI, 124 TB, 39 BB and 4 SB. Demeritte's 92 G, 4 3B, 11 HR, 44 RBI, 124 SB, and 39 BB are a team best in each respective category. The Statham, GA native was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (30th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Winder Barrow High School (Winder, GA). The former first round draft pick was acquired by the Atlanta Braves from the Texas Rangers on July 27, 2016 in exchange for LHP Dario Alvarez and RHP Lucas Harrell.

Wilson, the 20-year old right-handed pitcher has been named Mississippi Farm Bureau Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. The right-hander made one start during the week (July 19th at Montgomery) posting a 0-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. In his start against the Montgomery Biscuits, Wilson pitched 7.0 innings and allowed just three hits, issued one walk and matched his season-high after recording nine strikeouts. Wilson did not allow a run, making it his third shutout performance en route to his fourth straight quality start. After amassing a total of 34 strikeouts in the month of July, Wilson finds himself currently tied with Cedar Rapids' Baily Ober and Buffalo's Sean Reid-Foley as Minor League Baseball's strikeout leader for the month of July.

On the season, Wilson has logged a 4.13 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. In 14 starts with the M-Braves in 2018, Wilson has allowed 72 H, 39 R, 33 ER, 3 HR, has issued 23 BB and struck out 81 in 72.0 IP. A native of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Wilson was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Orange High School (Hillsborough, North Carolina.)

The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
