Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Robert Andino collected the first cycle in over four years and the Albuquerque Isotopes (61-72) offense hammered six New Orleans Zephyrs (62-71) pitchers for twenty hits in a 16-8 slugfest victory Thursday night at Isotopes Park. In addition to collecting the first five-hit game of his career, Andino hit the fourth cycle in Isotopes history, last accomplished by Derek Wathan in July 2004.
Albuquerque wasted no time jumping all over the Zephyrs as Mike Ryan led the second inning off with a single up to the middle and sprinted around the bases after Andrew Beattie lined a double to right field for the game's first run, 1-0. Brett Hayes singled past the second baseman into right field to plate Beattie and double the Isotopes lead to two, 2-0.
Andino crushed a leadoff triple in the third and after Tommy Murphy drew a walk, Tagg Bozied, stepped to the plate and slapped a single up the middle that drove in Andino for Albuquerque's third run, while Murphy dashed to third. With runners on first and second, Ryan cleared the bases with a triple to right field that gave Albuquerque a five run edge, 5-0. Jai Miller knocked in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center that plated Ryan as the Isotopes took a commanding six run lead, 6-0.
Even with a comfortable six-run cushion, the âTopes added more in the fourth as starter Bobby Keppel led off with a single up the middle before Andino followed with a single that put two runners on for Murphy, who singled to right that drove in Keppel while Andino advanced to second. Bozied extended the hit parade with a single up the middle that scored Andino for the âTopes eighth run, 8-0. After a passed ball moved the runners to second and third, Ryan capitalized on the Z's mistake by lofting a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Murphy to tag and score the Isotopes ninth run, 9-0.
New Orleans finally got on the board in the fifth when Anderson Machado slugged a two-out double to left field that set up reliever Eddie Camacho, who knocked in Machado after a lacing a double off the right-center field wall that put New Orleans on the board, 9-1.
Leading off in the fifth, Miller tattooed a line drive over the left field fence for a solo home run as the Isotopes reclaimed a nine-run advantage, 10-1. Two batters later, Andino crushed a solo blast over the left-center field wall that extended Albuquerque's advantage to ten, 11-1.
Andy Green led the sixth inning off by slamming his third homer in two days over the left-center field fence. Then, Trot Nixon drew a walk before Michel Abreu blasted a two-run homer to left that cut the âTopes lead to seven, 11-4. Chris Aguila finished the power surge with the third homer of the inning, a solo blast to left knocking the âTopes advantage to six, 11-5.
Bozied led the sixth inning off with a single to shallow center for McPherson, who added a single up the middle that advanced Bozied to third. With runners on the corners, Beattie singled up the middle that scored Bozied as McPherson raced to third. Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Hayes, who singled to right that plated McPherson and kept the bases loaded for reliever Jarrett Santos, his single to left knocked in two as the Isotopes reclaimed a ten run edge, 15-5. Andino continued his outstanding performance with a double to left-center that completed the cycle and scored Hayes for an eleven run lead, 16-5.
With the game well in hand, the duo of Isotopes relievers, Santos and Scott Nestor contained the Zephyrs offense over the final three innings only yielding three runs to secure the 16-8 victory.
Albuquerque looks to continue its offense surging against the New Orleans Zephyrs tomorrow night with right hander Tim Corcoran (0-0, 0.00) who will battle New Orleans southpaw Willie Collazo (4-8, 4.05). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM at Isotopes Park.
