Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack welcomed their Mid-west division rival London Knights Wednesday night, looking to hand the visitors their first loss of the season. The Attack were without captain Mark Woolley for a second straight game, along with other veterans Kaleb Lawrence, Nolan Seed and goalie Nick Chenard, as well as rookie Cedricson Okitundu. With a slightly depleted roster, Owen Sound was unable to match the Knights early energy and eventually fell 4-1 to their division rivals.
With some many injuries and guys out of the roster, it forced many of the Attack rookies up the lineup card, and into more minutes. Though many of the Attack rookies have looked good this season, it was an early bobble with the puck by Taos Jordan that gave Knights captain Luke Evangelista a break-away from the blue line in, and the veteran winger made no mistake to open the scoring. London would pot two more goals before the opening 20 minutes was over, with Max McCue and Colton Smith both taking advantage of rebound opportunities in front of the Attack net.
Owen Sound was able to flip the ice in the middle frame though, as they began to get quality shots on Knights goalie Brett Brochu. The Attack started to look frustrated as Brochu turned them away at every turn, but they stayed with the pressure and were eventually rewarded.
After Attack rookie Colby Barlow and Knights defensemen Ben Rogers got into a small scuffle, resulting in a Rogers penalty, the Attack showed their strong power play acumen. It was Deni Goure, who had scored all four of his goals on the power play this year, who ripped home his fifth with a perfectly placed shot, hitting the back bar and cutting the Knights lead down to two.
Owen Sound would press in the final 20 minutes, but could not find a way to sneak another goal by Brochu, as the Knights were able to seal the win with Evangelista potting the empty netter with just seconds left in the game. The Knights have now taken all four meetings with the Attack, but this is the first that was not decided by just a single goal.
The Attack will travel to Guelph for a date with the Storm Friday night, before returning to the Bayshore to welcome former coach Al Letang and his Sarina Sting Saturday.
