Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (13-10) were halted again by the Carolina Mudcats (14-9) on Friday night as the visitors earned their second straight win over the Shorebirds by a score of 7-1.
Delmarva took an early first-inning lead as Creed Willems singled home Carter Young to make it 1-0 Delmarva after an inning of play.
Carolina tied the game in the third inning on a two-out, infield hit by Luis Lara that scored Jheremy Vargas from third to even the game at one.
It remained a 1-1 game into the fifth until Daniel Guilarte sprung the Mudcats in front with a two-run double down the rightfield line to give Carolina a 3-1 edge.
The Mudcats scored three more runs in the seventh, all unearned as an error earlier in the inning helped Carolina extend their lead to 6-1.
They'd add another unearned in the ninth for good measure to go up 7-1 and the Mudcats would go on to win by that score as they earned their third victory of the week in four games.
Nate Peterson (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Mudcats with Juan De Los Santos (0-3) taking the loss for the Shorebirds.
Delmarva was the victim of excellent Carolina pitching on Friday night as the Mudcats allowed just five base runners in the whole game, and just one after the third. The pitching staff for Carolina struck out 15 Shorebirds, tying the most in a single game for the Delmarva offense this season.
Bradley Brehmer gets the ball on Saturday night as the Shorebirds look to get back on track against Alexander Vallecillo for the Mudcats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
