Spokane Shock News Release
SPOKANE, WA (May 3, 2006)-The Spokane Shock announced today that the team has been assigned former University of Alberta defensive lineman, Darren Balderson by the arenafootball2 League Office.
Balderson, a 2005 Canada West All-Star conference selection, played with the Golden Bears for five years and currently ranks first on Alberta's all-time sack list with 15 career sacks. He played in 7 games totaling 26 tackles and 8 sacks in his 2005 senior season.
Shock Head Coach Chris Siegfried will bring Balderson in on the line and play him on both sides of the ball. "Darren is very strong defensively, and he should transition to play offense just as well," said Siegfried.
Balderson was a strong asset for the Bears in 2004 when he racked up 30 tackles, four sacks, 1 forced fumble and a safety. He also ran the ball for a touchdown in the 2005 CW Hardy Cup final, after lining up as an eligible receiver.
"He has shown his ability to be versatile and he should be a strong asset to the team," said Siegfried.
With an emphasis being placed on international expansion, the league allows teams with international players to suit up an extra player. Balderson, a Canadian citizen, qualifies the Shock for this extra roster spot.
Season tickets are on sale now for the remaining six home games by contacting the Shock at 242 SHOCK. Tickets for individual games are available by calling 325.SEAT or visiting any TicketsWest outlet.
