Conquest QB Vena Named Schutt Offensive Player of the Week

Albany, N.Y. - Albany Conquest today announced that quarterback Ryan Vena was named the arenafootball2 Schutt Offensive Player of the Week. He threw for 353 passing yards and matched a season-best with five touchdown passes in a 73-62 victory over the Quad City Steamwheelers at Pepsi Arena's U.S. Army Field on Saturday.

Vena, 28, had a hand in eight of the 11 touchdowns in Albany's 73-62 win over the Quad City at Pepsi Arena's U.S. Army Field. He completed 21-of-30 passes for 353 yards with five touchdowns through the air, while also rushing four times for 15 yards and three touchdowns. Each of his five touchdown passes were 13 yards or more, while two of the touchdowns were for more than 40 yards.

This is the first weekly award of the season and marks the third time in his af2 career that Vena has been named Offensive Player of the Week. He leads the af2 with 1,574 yards of total offense, 1,534 passing yards, a passing average of 306.8 yards per game and 10 rushing TDs through five match-ups. Vena was First-Team All-af2 in 2003, leading the league in total offense (4,634), completions (345), while placing second in completion percentage (67.3), TD passes (85) and attempts (513). He played two seasons in the AFL, setting multiple rushing records working under coach Costanza with the Columbus Destroyers (AFL).
