Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose announced that they have released forward Jason Shmyr from his pro tryout contract.

This was the rugged winger second stint with the Moose during his career. In the 1998-99 season, Shmyr notched two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and a whopping 227 penalty minutes in 57 IHL games. He still holds the franchise record for most penalties in one game with eight and second most penalty minutes in a single game with 43. He set the team's sixth highest single regular season record for penalty minutes with 227.

Shmyr played last season with the Houston Aeros and scored six points (three goals, three assists) with 169 penalty minutes. He added one playoff goal in three AHL games with the Aeros.

"From the Moose organization, this was a difficult decision to make," stated Moose General Manager Craig Heisinger. "Personally, Jason will be missed and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

Shmyr, 27, was signed to a pro tryout contract on August 20 and played in four contests this season for the Moose. He accumulated two shots and two penalty minutes.
