Shavertown Native McGrath Signs with Penguins

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Patrick McGrath to an American Hockey League contract for the 2015-16 season.

A native of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, McGrath became the first local hockey player to join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, signing a professional tryout agreement with the team on December 26, 2014. He made his AHL debut the next night versus Bridgeport Sound Tigers and appeared in two total games for the Penguins.

McGrath, 22, is entering his third year as a professional after spending the last two seasons with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. In 104 games for Wheeling, he has recorded three goals, six assists and 422 penalty minutes. McGrath ranked sixth in the ECHL in penalty minutes (246) during the 2014-15 season.

Prior to turning pro, McGrath skated in 72 games for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2011-13, gathering two points (1G-1A) and 229 penalty minutes.
