
Florida Panthers Sign Forward McKegg to Two-Way NHL Contract

Portland, ME - The Florida Panthers, NHL affiliate of the Portland Pirates, today announced the signing of forward Greg McKegg to a one-year, two-way NHL contract. McKegg was a restricted free agent who was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for prospect Zach Hyman and a conditional Seventh Round choice in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
McKegg, a 6-foot-1, 191 pound center from St. Thomas, Ontario, will enter his fourth full season of professional hockey in 2015-16. He spent the majority of the 2014-15 season with the Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, where he played in 62 games and scored 22 goals and 15 assists for 37 points. He also collected 39 penalty minutes during the AHL season. During the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs, McKegg scored two goals and picked up 12 PIM in five games in the Marlies' first round defeat at the hands of the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Selected in the Third Round (62nd Overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by Toronto, McKegg also played three NHL games for the Maple Leafs last season. He made his NHL debut in 2013-14, playing in one game.
The 23 year-old's best statistical so far was his 2013-14 season in which he scored 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 65 games. McKegg also added three goals and three assists for six points in 14 playoff games, helping the Marlies reach the AHL's Western Conference Final.
Before he turned pro, McKegg played four seasons in the OHL, three-and-a-half with the Erie Otters and half a season with the London Knights.
