
Sharks Win Third in a Row on Thursday Night

Petersburg, Va. - The Wilmington Sharks (11-7, 25-20) picked up their third win in a row as they had 14 hits and beat the Petersburg Generals (3-11, 7-35) on the road on Thursday night 6-4.
The Sharks got on the board first as Andrew Amaro led off the game with a strike out, but reached first safely on a dropped third strike and then advanced to second on a bad throw. Alex Freedman drove Amaro in on a RBI double and eventually scored on a single off the bat of Tommy Houmard to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
The Generals were able to tie up the game in the bottom of the second inning on back to back RBI singles from Nick Christopher and Ricardo Castro to make it 2-2. Amaro gave the lead back to the Sharks in the top of the seventh inning on a base hit back up the middle to score two runs and give the Sharks a 4-2 advantage.
Mike Dunster picked up a one out single in the top of the eighth inning and eventually scored on a base hit off the bat of Zach MacAneney to make it 5-2 Sharks. Jay Dee Johnson scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the Sharks lead to 5-3.
Alex Freedman led off the top of the ninth inning with his second double of the night to get in scoring position. Zach Stephens came up with a timely hit to drive in Freedman to extend the Sharks lead to 6-3. The Generals did pick up a run in the bottom half of the ninth, but were unable to tie up the game.
Freedman went 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Amaro went 3-5 with two RBIs as was back to back three hit games for Amaro. Ryan Minteer was picked up the win as he improves his record to 3-0 and Will Shepley was credited with his second save of the year.
The Wilmington Sharks continue their road trip as they take on the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
