
Late Rally Not Enough, Marlins Drop Tough 11-8 Decision to Peninsula

Morehead City, N.C. - The Marlins played the role of the come back kids all night, but after leading 6-5 heading to the seventh fell to the Peninsula Pilots struck back with a four-run eighth inning and won the game by a final score of 11-8 at Big Rock Stadium on Thursday night in Morehead City.
The Pilots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first on a Jordan Negrini RBI single to left with the bases loaded. Marlins starter Jacob Hoyle got out of the jam and the Marlins trailed by just one run heading to the home half of the inning. The Pilots tacked on four more runs on four RBI singles off the bats of Patrick Grady, Garrett Brooks, Brandon Reitano and Alex Close to extend their lead to 5-0 heading to the home half of the fourth.
Ryan Muno did his best to get the Marlins back in the game with a rocket three-RBI double to right-centerfield with the bases loaded. Morehead City then tacked on three more runs, highlighted by a Muno hit by pitch with the bases loaded, which made it a 6-5 ballgame heading to the seventh inning.
The Pilots came back in a big way with a two-run seventh inning and a four run eighth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of Bill Cullen. Morehead City picked up two runs in the ninth, when Sam Ott and Muno scored on a Peninsula fielding error. However, the late rally was not enough as the Pilots emerged with an 11-8 victory.
Aaron Myers picked up the win for the Peninsula Pilots in relief of Justin Bhatti. William Prince suffered the loss for the Marlins. With the loss the Marlins fell to three games under the .500 mark 21-24. With the win the Pilots improved to 28-17 on the season.
The Marlins head out to Edenton on Friday night for a doubleheader with the Steamers. First pitch from Historic Hicks Field, 6:05 PM. Morehead City returns to Big Rock Stadium on Saturday night as they welcome the Peninsula Pilots once again.
