Wilmington Sharks News Release

The Wilmington Sharks pushed past the visiting Florence RedWolves on Wednesday afternoon by a 12-6 score, led by Daniel Aldrich's five RBI afternoon as he finished a double shy of the cycle.

The Sharks (12-15) plated two runs in both the first and second innings before posting a three spot on the scoreboard in the third inning to grab a comfortable margin. Wilmington added another run in the fifth before scoring three more runs in the sixth off of Aldrich's bat, while they posted the game's final run in the bottom of the eighth.

Aldrich's afternoon started with a fly out to center field in the first inning, but the Sharks designated hitter came back with a triple down the right field line in the third that gave him two RBI and a single in the fifth. In the sixth, with two on and two out, Aldrich connected for the three-run blast into the netting overlooking right-center field. In his final at-bat of the night, Aldrich struck out to end his pursuit of the cycle.

Justyn Carter, Ricardo Lizcano and Kenny Bryant all tallied 3-for-5 afternoons at the plate in Aldrich's shadow, as Carter scored and had an RBI, Lizcano picked up an RBI and scored twice and Bryant scored twice.

Alex Freedman also added two singles and an RBI, while Casey Allison had an RBI single towards the Sharks offensive output as well.

Stephen Vaughan pushed through to earn his second win of the season after going 5-1/3 innings on the hill for the Sharks while allowing 10 hits and five runs.

Shane Brown led Florence with a 4-for-5 night at the plate.

The Sharks travel to Florence to take on the RedWolves Thursday night before returning to the Shark Tank on Friday night as they host the Outer Banks Daredevils in Firsty Friday to open the Independence Day weekend with $1 beverage specials. The weekend continues Sunday night when the Sharks host Florence with postgame fireworks presented by Taco Bell to follow. Gates open for both games at 6 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
