Daredevils Fall to Pilots in 13

Kill Devil Hills, N.C. ‚¬" The Outer Banks Daredevils played deep into the night with the Peninsula Pilots coming out on top after 13 innings with a 8-7 final. Ryan Huck delivered the final blow for the pilots in the top of the thirteenth.

The Daredevils got off to a great start with a run in the bottom of the first. Second baseman Tyler Sciacca tripled and scored on a Jordan Hankins ground out. Starter Zach Smith escaped trouble in the first and second innings before giving up a run in the third as center fielder Zac MacAneney scored on a ground out by Chad Pinder.

The Pilots starter Phil McCarthy gave up a second run in the third when center fielder scored after Hankins double. The Daredevils continued to put pressure on McCarthy as the plated three more runs by the fifth inning. Cather Michael Thomas brought home Sean O ‚¬â„¢Hare on a single before he him self would be brought home by Mike Levin. Reese would score in the fifth on a RBI single by Mathew Fleishman making the score 5-1 after five.

The Pilots start to chip away at the lead with a RBI single by left fielder Phil Ruzbarsky. In the home half of the seventh the Devil ‚¬â„¢s Fleishman would score on an RBI blooper to right center.

In the eighth the Pilots cut the lead to one with a four run inning. Second baseman scored on a triple by Pinder who would then be brought home by Chas Crane. Tristan Moore would bring home Crane while shortstop Jimmy Rider would tie the game at six by bringing home DH Terrell Joyce in the top of the eighth.

The Daredevils would regain the lead in the home half of the inning as Fleishman picked up his second RBI bringing home Sciacca making the score 6-7. However the Devils could not hold on to the lead as the Pilots tied it again in the top of the ninth when Joyce brought in Pinder.

Pitching dominated the extra frames until the thirteenth inning when the pilots broke through. Substitute Jake Cave would score on an RBI line drive up the middle by Cather Ryan Huck. Ben Tomchick shutdown the Daredevils to gather his fourth win of the season.
