Sharks Close out 2014 with a Bang

Worcester, MA. - The Worcester Sharks (13-13-3-1, 30pts) have points in four straight games after a convincing 6-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (15-12-3-1, 34pts) in front of 3,621 fans at the DCU Center on Tuesday evening.

Travis Oleksuk scored twice, Dylan Demelo added four points (1-3-4), Freddie Hamilton picked up four assists, and Troy Grosenick made 21 saves in net for his 9th win of the season as the Sharks extended their point streak to four games (2-0-1-1). Adam Burish (1-1-2) and Konrad Abeltshauser (1-1-2) each had two point games and Greger Hanson scored his 1st AHL goal for Worcester. With the win, head coach Roy Sommer tied John Paddock (589 wins) for the third most wins in AHL history.

The Sound Tigers opened up the scoring at 2:24 of the first period as Colin McDonald (12th) finished off a 2-on-1 rush after a great feed by Kael Mouillierat to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead. Worcester would finally get on the board with 11.1 seconds remaining after several great chances on goaltender David Leggio. Travis Oleksuk (2nd) fired a shot from in between the circles through a screen assisted by Freddie Hamilton and Dylan Demelo for the only Sharks score of the period. Worcester outshot Bridgeport 15-7 in the first period with each team going 0-for-2 on the power play.

Bridgeport grabbed a 2-1 lead at 7:13 as rookie defenseman Ryan Pulock (12th) scored his 10th power play goal of the season with a laser from 45 feet past Troy Grosenick. Worcester would tie the score with a power play goal of their own as Dylan Demelo (2nd) sent a point shot past David Leggio at 10:07. Oleksuk (3rd) deflected a centering feed by Freddie Hamilton with 1.1 seconds remaining in the second period to give Worcester their first lead of the night at 3-2. The Sharks led 3-2 after 40 minutes and held a 28-15 shot advantage through 40 minutes.

Worcester exploded for three more goals in the third period to pull away for the 6-2 win. Greger Hanson (1st) scored his 1st AHL goal with an easy tap in after a great feed by Adam Burish at 6:04. Konrad Abeltshauser (2nd) struck on the power play at 9:16 to put the Sharks ahead 5-2 and Adam Burish (4th) finished the scoring at 17:11 for the 6-2 win. Troy Grosenick made eight saves in the third period, four of which were spectacular in nature for his 9th win of season.

The Sharks overall record improves to 13-13-3-1, 30pts, and 8-5-2-1, 19pts at the DCU Center this season.

Petter Emanuelsson (inj), Taylor Doherty (inj), Eriah Hayes (inj), and Andrew Blazek did not dress for Worcester....before the game, the San Jose Sharks loaned Chris Tierney back to Worcester - he was not in the lineup due to travel back from San Jose.... Micheal Haley, Matt Tennyson, and Melker Karlsson are all still currently on recall with the SJ Sharks.... Dylan Demelo also added a game high six shots on goal...Worcester has won four straight games against Bridgeport dating back to last season.

Worcester will head to Springfield on Saturday for a 7pm date vs. the Falcons and close out the busy week with a 3:05pm start in Providence on Sunday.
