Norfolk Admirals News Release

HERSHEY, Pa. - Garrett Mitchell and Casey Wellman each scored a goal in the second period to push the Hershey Bears to a 2-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Tuesday night at the Giant Center.

After playing a scoreless first period, Hershey rewarded a five-on-three penalty kill by springing Garrett Mitchell for a clear breakaway out of the penalty box on Admiral goaltender John Gibson. Mitchell faked right before finishing into the roof of the net over Gibson's right side for the night's first tally at 8:50 of the second.

It looked as though the Bears would take a one-goal advantage into the final frame until Kris Newbury found Casey Wellman low in the slot. Wellman whipped a shot through Gibson's legs at 19:47 and Hershey led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

A quiet final period did include a late rebound goal by Norfolk's Louis Leblanc with 32 seconds left in regulation. That's all Hershey's Philipp Grubauer allowed and the Bears secured the 2-1 win.

Grubauer made 20 saves in the triumph while Gibson turned aside 22 saves. Norfolk returns home to begin 2015 with a two-game set versus Lehigh Valley.
