Worcester Sharks News Release

Springfield, MA - Alex Stalock tied a team record with his 30th victory of the season as the Worcester Sharks knocked off the Springfield Falcons, 6-0, at the MassMutual Center in a rare Tuesday night contest.

Steven Zalewski reached the 20-goal plateau with two goals in the game. Benn Ferriero added two assists and Stalock made 21 stops as Worcester finished the season unbeaten in regulation against the Falcons.

The last time Worcester was in Springfield, they hopped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period. They bettered themselves this time as they went out to a 3-0 lead after the first twenty minutes of play. 2:34 into the period, T.J. Trevelyan (12) provided all the offense Worcester would need, as he tipped home a Corey Quirk centering pass behind J.P. Levasseur and Worcester was ahead, 1-0. The lead doubled on the power play when nifty passing from Jamie McGinn and Benn Ferriero gave Steven Zalewski (19) a wide-open net to knock the puck home. Dwight Helminen (9) stretched the lead to, 3-0, at the 9:03 mark, with his fourth point in the past two games. Dan DaSilva and Jason Demers assisted on the tally. Worcester outshot Springfield, 15-3.

Worcester scored the lone goal of the second period, at the 10:18 mark, when Zalewski (20) scored his second of the game. After a scrum in the right-wing corner, Zalewski collected the puck at the top of the circle and sniped one glove-side past Devan Dubnyk. Ferriero collected his second assist of the game on the goal. The period was highlighted when Worcester killed off a four minute power play to begin the frame. The Falcons held the shot advantage, 10-8.

Dennis McCauley (8) scored his fourth goal in his last two games in Springfield, as he blasted one through the armpit of Dubnyk, 9:11 into the third period. Brandon Mashinter and Danny Groulx earned assists. Mashinter (16) tallied a goal of his own 3:54 later as he uncorked one that ripped through the glove of Dubnyk. DaSilva and Andrew Desjardins picked up the assists.

Worcester's record moves to 34-16-2-2 (72 points) and they extend their Atlantic Division lead to three points over the idle Manchester Monarchs.
