10.03.09 - Worcester 3 - Adirondack 2 - Glens Falls Civic Center
The Sharks opened up their 4th season in style with a stunning 3-2 come from behind victory in Glens Falls, NY against the Adirondack Phantoms on Saturday. Jamie McGinn scored a power play goal with 11.2 seconds remaining in the third period and Alex Stalock made 28 saves in net for his first professional victory. Andrew Desjardins gave Worcester an early 1-0 lead, but the Sharks trailed 2-1 early in the third period. Steven Zalewski tied the game on the power play at 12:04 after the initial shot by Michael Wilson was blocked. Danny Groulx added two assists for Worcester. The Sharks went 2for4 on the power play and a perfect 6for6 on the penalty kill.
Sharks in the Atlantic
The Sharks are currently swimming tied for first place with Bridgeport, Manchester, Providence, and Springfield in the Atlantic Division with two points (1-0-0-0). The Lowell Devils are in 5th place with one point while the Pirates and the Wolf Pack are tied for 6th place in a very choppy Atlantic Division.

*Captains for the 2009-10 season: Captain Ryan Vesce (2nd year), Assistant Captains Derek Joslin (2nd year) and Mike Moore (1st year).
*Six more to 400....With the victory in Glens Falls, NY, head coach Roy Sommer has 394 career victories in the AHL.
*You always remember your first.....The Sharks had six players (Alex Stalock, Joe Loprieno, John McCarthy, Dean Strong, Nicholas Petrecki, and Brandon Mashinter) make their professional debut on opening night in Glens Falls, NY.
*Young Guns....The average age of the Sharks opening night roster is 23.08 which includes 12 rookies, five 2nd year players and two third year players. At the age of 28, Danny Groulx is the oldest while Nicholas Petrecki at 20 years old and three months is the youngest.
*Take the college or juniors route....the Sharks have 13 players from the college ranks (six from hockey east), eight from juniors and two players that played in both.
*Road Trip!....Worcester has six straight regular season road victories dating back to last season (franchise record)
*Who's that in net?.....Alex Stalock made 28 saves for his first professional victory. The start by Stalock broke a streak of 28 straight games (including playoffs) started by Thomas Greiss.
*Apples....Defenseman Danny Groulx recorded two assists in his Sharks debut on Saturday. Groulx ranked 14th among AHL defensemen last season with 40 points (6-34-40) in 80 games with Rockford and ranked 2nd with 202 shots on goal.
*All four years....Defenseman Derek Joslin is the only Sharks player to suit up in all four seasons in Worcester.
*Five for fighting...The Sharks have one fighting major penalty this season through one game as Brandon Mashinter recorded his first professional major penalty in a second period bout against Garret Klotz on Saturday. The Sharks had 78 fighting majors last season, 68 fighting majors in 2007-08 and 54 in 2006-07.

Jason Demers and Frazer McLaren each recorded their first NHL points assisting on the first NHL goal by Benn Ferriero in the first period in Anaheim on Saturday.
Former Worcester Shark Devin Setoguchi scored his first goal of season in 4-1 win at Anaheim on Saturday.

The Sharks continue their opening three game road trip with a trip to Bridgeport on Friday and a battle in Lowell on Saturday. Starting time for both games is at 7pm.
