Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

The High Desert Mavericks scored seven times in the sixth inning, turning a three-run deficit into a four-run lead, as they held on to down the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a final of 10-8, in front of 4,658 fans at Mavericks Stadium on Sunday night.

Jake Shaffer greeted reliever Nick Pugliese (2-2) with a two-run double to tie the game in the sixth inning, while Dennis Raben followed with a two-run homer, putting the Mavs ahead to stay at 8-6. Johermyn Chavez capped the seven-run frame with a two-run single, putting the Mavs in front 10-6.

The Quakes added single runs in the seventh and the ninth, but could get no closer. Wes Littleton gave up a solo home run to Luis Jimenez to lead off the ninth, but retired the next three hitters to earn his second save.

The Quakes and Mavs traded runs early on, as Rancho Cucamonga took a 2-0 first-inning lead over High Desert starter Jake Wild. Dillon Baird had an RBI groundout, while Angel Castillo walked with the bases loaded, putting the Quakes in front 2-0.

The Mavs answered in the second, as Denny Almonte ripped a two-run homer to right field off Quakes' starter Ryan Chaffee, evening the game at 2-2.

Rich Poythress took Chaffee deep in the third, putting the Mavs up 3-2.

Rian Kiniry blasted his first home run since April 19th, a three-run shot to put the Quakes in front at 5-3.

Kiniry collected his season-high fourth hit in the sixth, driving in his season-best fourth run, as his single knocked in Angel Castillo to give the Quakes a 6-3 lead.

Chaffee allowed the first three hitters to reach to open the sixth, as the Quakes then went to Pugliese, who allowed the first five hitters to reach safely, as the Mavs took the lead for good.

Cheyne Hann (1-4) earned the win in one inning of relief for High Desert, despite giving up an RBI double in the seventh to Clay Fuller.

The Quakes (5-6, 44-37) look to get back on track on Monday, sending Matt Shoemaker (6-6) to the mound against Mavs' right-hander Andrew Carraway (5-4). First pitch from Mavericks Stadium is 7:05pm.

The Quakes return from the six-game road trip next Saturday night, opening up a three-game series against High Desert at The Epicenter. July 10th is Millenium Systems Fireworks Night, as everyone will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Display, thanks to Millennium Systems and KOLA 99.9.
