Cal League All-Stars Become MLB All-Stars

July 5, 2010 - California League (CalL1) News Release


Port Hueneme, CA - 13 former Cal League players were elected to Major League Baseball's All Star Game yesterday. The game will be played in Anaheim, CA home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday July 13th . Of the 13 former Cal Leaguers, 3 will be in the starting lineup. Evan Longoria and Josh Hamilton are among the starters from the American League Team. Andre Ethier will start for the National League team.

In 2006, Longoria hit .327 for Visalia in 28 games while blasting 8 homeruns before quickly earning himself a promotion to Double-A. Josh Hamilton hit .303 during his time in Bakersfield in 2002 and Ethier teed off on Cal League pitchers while playing for Modesto on his way to hitting .313 in 2004.

The Cal League has potential to gain another 2 former Cal Leaguers in Paul Konerko (1995 San Bernadino Spirit), Nick Swisher (2002 Visalia Oaks/2003 Modesto A's), and Carlos Rodriguez (2006 Lancaster JetHawks). All 3 are "Final Man Candidates" in which the fans will vote for an extra player for each team.
