Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Inland Empire's Ethan Martin displayed the skills that have made him one of the top pitching prospects in the Dodgers' farm system with a dominant performance over the JetHawks. Martin limited Lancaster to just three hits and no runs in eight innings of work as the 66ers defeated Lancaster 5-0 at Clear Channel Stadium Monday. The 66ers struck first with a run in the opening frame. Alfredo Silverio hit a pop fly to second base that Albert Cartwright could not come up with and Silverio reached second on the fielding error. Austin Gallagher drove in Silverio with an RBI single.

Martin (9-6) kept the JetHawks off balance throughout the night. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, allowing just a walk to Andy Simunic in the bottom of the third. Brandon Wikoff hit a one-out single in the sixth to break up Martin's bid for a no-hitter, but the right-hander retired the next two Lancaster hitters to end the inning.

JetHawks starter Leandro Cespedes (0-3) pitched well in his fourth start of the season. The 23-year-old right-hander allowed just one unearned run through the first five frames. But Gallagher smacked a two-run home run off Cespedes in the top of the sixth, which gave the 66ers all the runs they would need. Cespedes gave up seven hits and three runs, two of which were earned, along with a walk and six strikeouts in five and 1/3 innings pitched.

The loss dropped Lancaster to 5-7 in the second half and 28-54 overall. Inland Empire improved to 5-7 in the second half and 31-51 overall.

The JetHawks and 66ers will meet in the rubber match of the three-game series Tuesday. Lancaster will start right-hander Ross Seaton (3-9, 6.29 ERA). Inland Empire is expected to counter with RHP Jon Michael Redding (3-6, 5.18 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn and News Talk 1380-AM.
