Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees begin a four-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies on April 7 at Smith's Ballpark.
The Bees opened their season with a win at home on Thursday, April 3 against the Sacramento River Cats, 8-3. Jarrett Grube (1-0) tossed six strong innings, allowing only two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
In the following game on April 4, the Bees came back after trailing Sacramento four runs to none in the second inning. Salt Lake's bats came alive to post 13 runs, claiming its second victory of the season, 13-4.
The River Cats took the next two, dropping the Bees to a 2-2 season mark. Down 11-2, in the third on Saturday, the Bees rallied for five more runs, but couldn't close the gap and eventually fell to Sacramento 12-7.
Sunday's game was another offensive explosion on both sides. Though the Bees posted 11 hits of their own, they were outdone by Sacramento's 16 and were downed 9-6.
Salt Lake will see Fresno 12 more times this season, four at home beginning May 23. The Bees visit the Golden State twice, kicking off four-games series June 26 and August 2.
The Bees held a 12-4 mark against Grizzlies in 2013. The match-up was highlighted by a four-game Salt Lake sweep at home July 22-25.
In players that have seen field time in all four games this season, shortstop Grant Green leads the Bees offense with a .529 batting average with three doubles, five RBIs and two stolen bases.
David Carpenter holds a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA over two relief appearances for Salt Lake. The right-hander has struck out two over 3.1 innings pitched.
The team will play 72 home games and 72 road games in 152 days this season. All games will air on The Zone Sports Network (1280 AM/97.5 FM) from the "voice of the Bees," Steve Klauke.
