Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) A 13-run Hops onslaught proved too much to overcome on a night when the Canadians committed a season-high six errors on defense, as Hillsboro rolled over Vancouver 13-3 on "Dog Day" out at Scotiabank Field.

The C's staked starter LHP Zak Wasilewski to a 2-0 lead entering the third, but a forgettable frame saw the first six Hillsboro batters reach base on four hits, an error, and a hit batter scoring six runs to take a lead they would not relinquish, hanging the Virginian southpaw with his third loss of the season.

The score could have been much worse with Vancouver committing three consecutive errors in the fifth to load the bases, but a base-running blunder by the Hops led to a double play that helped the Canadians get out of the inning unscathed.

The Vancouver bullpen fared no better, surrendering seven more runs on seven hits, a walk, and yet another error as the Canadians commit six errors in a game for the first time since 2010.

LF Grant Heyman highlighted the Hops embarrassment of riches on offense, coming a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a single, double, and home run, clubbing a team season-high five RBI's.

The lone bright spot for the C's on the night, RF Boomer Collins got his second-half off to a better start, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI's accounting for all of the C's offense on Tuesday night.

The loss snaps Vancouver's win streak at five games, dropping a series opener for just the third time this season. With both Everett and Tri-City winning their second half debuts, Vancouver will want to quickly move on from this game and will have the opportunity as the five-game set continues tomorrow with a Superstar Series Appearance by former Expos ace Steve Rogers. First pitch scheduled for 7:05pm PST.
