Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, WI - July 1, 2011. The Madison Mallards will head to Green Bay to take on the Bullfrogs at Johannes Stadium Friday in a 7:05 p.m. contest between two of the top four teams in the South Division of the Northwoods League.
One night after a thrilling come-from-behind victory, the Mallards will attempt to keep the Bullfrogs at bay for the second time in five games this season. Before Thursday's win, Madison had gone 0-3 against Green Bay.
The tables were turned on Thursday as it was the Mallards' pitching staff who made their presence felt, allowing only two runs and five hits. In the three previous games against the Bullfrogs, Mallards' pitchers were averaging 10.3 runs and 12.7 hits allowed. The Ducks also out-hit the Bullfrogs 8-5 Thursday.
Looking to keep the team rolling will be pitcher Jonathon Crawford (Florida). Crawford has appeared in three games for the Mallards, but Friday will be his first start. In 4.2 innings of work, the right- hander has allowed two runs on five hits and has struck out seven batters. Crawford has not faced Green Bay or factored into a decision yet this season.
The Bullfrogs will send Cam Dullnig (Western Carolina) to the hill. Dullnig will make his second start of the season. He has pitched 10.1 innings in five appearances and has allowed only two runs while striking out twelve. Dullnig has not pitched against the Mallards, but has played in the field against the team this season as a member of the Bullfrogs' outfield.
Friday's game will be the second time the Mallards will play in Johannes Stadium this season. They lost 9-0 back on June 16, but a win Friday would give the team a series win and secure another day atop the division.
Next Home Game The Mallards will return to the "Duck Pond" after Friday's game against the Bullfrogs to start a two- game set with the Battle Creek Bombers on Saturday, July 2. The game will start at 5:05 p.m.
Scoreboard Watch With the Mallards leading the South Division by one game, Friday's game against second-place Green Bay is vital for the team's success. However, the other two teams tied with Green Bay also play in Michigan, as Eau Claire and Battle Creek square off at C.O. Brown Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Probable pitchers for the finale of the three-game series between the Express and the Bombers are Ben Kincaid (Mankato State, 2-0, 0.86 ERA) for Eau Claire and Troy Forton (Western Michigan, 2-2, 3.74 ERA) for Battle Creek.
