Chesapeake Baysox News Release
The Baysox grounded into four double plays and watched Richmond put together the big inning with a three-run sixth as Bowie fell 5-3 in the rubber match at The Diamond. With the loss the Baysox finished their week-long road trip with a record of 3-3.
Bowie grabbed the lead in the first inning as 3B Buck Britton doubled over the head of Richmond left fielder Devin Harris. He scored two batters later on an RBI-single up the middle by 1B Christian Walker.
Tied at 1-1 in the fifth inning, 2B Garabez Rosa pulled a breaking ball down the left field line for a double to lead off the inning. He would later score on a SAC fly by DH KD Kang.
But Richmond battled back. They tied the game in the fifth inning and then grabbed the lead in the sixth. CF Jarret Parker tripled to right-center field to lead off the inning. Four of the next five batters registered singles in the three-run inning. It knocked starter Tyler Wilson from the game. Wilson, the Eastern league's leader in wins, picked up his first loss of the year.
Bowie's best chance at a rally was in the eighth inning. The Baysox had a run in and the tying runs in scoring position with one man out. Pinch hitter Ronald Bermudez struck out and Rosa then grounded out to end the threat.
With the loss the Baysox are now 2.5 games in back of Richmond in the Western Division and back to the .500 mark at 13-13 on the year.
Bowie returns home Friday, May 2nd to open a three-game weekend series with Erie at 6:35 p.m. LHP Tim Berry gets the starting nod for the Baysox.
