BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Bells handed the Yakima Valley Pippins their first series loss on the road this season, after knocking off the Pippins, 10-1, at Joe Martin Field.
Bellingham (15-9) got to Pippins starter Jesse Houser for a run in the 1st inning and four more in the 2nd. After a scoreless 3rd inning, Houser allowed a run in both the 4th and 5th to fall behind, 7-0. With Houser out after five innings, Bellingham put its final three runs up in the 7th against reliever Jordon Gonzalez. Eight of Bellingham's 10 runs and seven of the 10 hits came with two outs.
Yakima Valley (14-10) had multiple scoring opportunities, but was only able to cash in on a Tyler Mildenberg single in the top of the 8th. The Pippins got the leadoff runner aboard in each of the last five innings and drew six walks in the contest. Also of note on Thursday, Mitch Skaggs extended his hitting streak to eight games.
The Pippins come home Friday to take on the Walla Walla Sweets (12-12) at 7:05 pm. It's Northwest Cherries Night at the ballpark, and fans will receive free samples of cherries at the gates. There will also be a team poster giveaway upon entry and a free pre-4th of July fireworks show will take place after the game.
