Harrisburg Senators News Release

Norwich, CT - The Harrisburg Senators erupted for three runs in the 10th inning as they held off the Connecticut Defenders, 5-2 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. The bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings to turn back the Defenders.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the 10th and the bases loaded with one out, William Bergolla lifted a sacrifice fly to shallow right that barely scored Mike Daniel as the go-ahead run. Roger Bernadina followed with a two-run single to cap the inning against Connecticut closer Sergio Romo.

The Senators took the first lead of the game in the 2nd inning. Luke Montz led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. A single by Ofilio Castro put runners at the corners and Daniel's RBI single plated Montz to make it 1-0.

In the 4th, Bernadina led off with a single and three batters later, Castro lined a hit into the right-field corner. Bernadina raced home to make it 2-0, but Castro was thrown out trying to go to third to end the inning.

Meanwhile, LHP Cory VanAllen cruised in the early going. He was only in serious danger once, as he stranded the bases loaded in the 4th inning. In the 7th, VanAllen allowed a one-out single to Chambersburg High School graduate Adam Witter and Jake Wald followed with his second home run of the year (and his second in as many days) to tie the game at 2-2.

LHP Tim Bittner (1-1) notched the victory, firing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. RHP Zech Zinicola worked a scoreless 9th with the help of a nifty game-ending double play to snag his fifth save of the year. Romo took the loss and fell to 1-2.

The Senators moved to 29-16, their best record of the season. They improved to 13-2 in series openers this year. Connecticut dropped to 21-24.

The series continues Saturday in Norwich at 6:35 PM. RHP Tristan Crawford draws the start on the mound for Harrisburg against Connecticut RHP Garrett Broshuis.
