Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Eric Brown allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings, helping the Binghamton Mets to an 8-6 win over the Reading Phillies at NYSEG Stadium Friday. The B-Mets have won nine of 11.
Reading (19-26) went ahead in the third when Brown (2-3) hit Javon Moran, who later scored on Greg Golson's sacrifice fly.
However, the B-Mets (23-23) took the lead for good in the third. Antonio Bastardo began the frame with back-to-back walks to Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans. Murphy stole third and scored the tying run on an error before Bastardo (2-2) uncorked a wild pitch that brought in Evans from third for a 2-1 B-Mets lead.
Binghamton added to their lead in the fifth. Evans and Carp hit one-out singles before Caleb Stewart's double scored Evans and chased Bastardo from the game. Salomon Manriquez greeted reliever Fabio Castro with a three-run homer to left that stretched the B-Mets lead to 6-1.
Solo homers by Jason Donald and Lou Marson in the sixth got Reading within three before Jeremy Slayden tripled and scored on an error in the eighth to cut Binghamton's lead to 6-4.
In the eighth, Jonathon Malo drew a one-out walk before Murphy reached on an infield hit. Two batters later, Carp's double scored Malo and Murphy for an 8-4 B-Mets lead.
Reading scored two in the ninth on Marson's bases-loaded walk and Mike Eylward's RBI single.
Saturday, the Binghamton Mets play the second game of a four-game series against the Reading Phillies. Bobby Parnell (3-3, 5.87) will start for the B-Mets against Andrew Carpenter (2-5, 5.54) of Reading. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: the B-Mets have taken four straight from REA...Binghamton has won six of its last seven at home...Brown has won back-to-back starts after going winless over his first six starts.
