Senators Rally for 4-3 Win over Bowie
April 4, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to knock off the Bowie Baysox 4-3 in front of 4,170 fans at Metro Bank Park. Destin Hood singled with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to drive in two runs, putting the Sens on top 4-3.
It was a back and forth game all night long. Harrisburg took the game's first lead in the second when Justin Bloxom drove home Steven Souza from second base with an RBI single. Souza had three hits, including a double, and two runs scored on the night.
Bowie tied things up on a two-out solo homer from Aaron Baker off Senators starting pitcher Brian Broderick. The right hander began his night strong, striking out five over the first two innings. Broderick would end up going five innings and receiving a no-decision.
The Senators tied the game at two in the fourth and once again it was Souza who got the inning rolling with a single into center. He advanced to third on a two-base error by center fielder Xavier Avery. Two batters later, Sandy Leon drove Souza home with an RBI single into right field.
Lew Ford gave Bowie its first lead with a two-out two-run homer off Broderick in the fifth. The lead held up until the eighth, when Harrisburg loaded the bases with nobody out. Bowie brought in former Senator Zech Zinicola to face Destin Hood, and Hood came through with an opposite field single to right.
Pat Lehman pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save. Rob Wort got the win and pitched a perfect eighth. Chris Petrini took the loss in relief for Bowie.
Game two of the four game series is Friday night at Metro Bank Park. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
