Brampton Steelheads News Release
Barrie, ON - Coming off a tough loss to the Owen Sound Attack Friday night, the Steelheads hoped to rebound Saturday when they visited the BMC to take on the Barrie Colts. Unfortunately, the Steelheads found themselves on the wrong end of another high-scoring affair as their Eastern Conference rivals, the Barrie Colts, shut them out 8-0.
The game got off to a bit of a slow start, as each team looked to shift the momentum in their favour early on after suffering tough losses the night before. Andrew Mangiapane opened the scoring at 8:53, firing a wrist shot short side to give Barrie a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, some penalty trouble would cost the Steelheads as Dylan Sadowy and Julius Nattinen added power play goals to put the Colts up 3-0 after the first period of play.
The Colts opened the floodgates in the second, scoring three goals within two minutes. The first came from Michael Webster who blasted a slapshot by Flinn for his seventh of the season. The second came from Cordell James who finished off a nice passing play from Ben Hawerchuk and Rasmus Andersson. The third goal came from Sadowy, who converted on a pass from Justin Scott for his second of the night as the Colts doubled their lead to 6-0. The Colts weren't finished there as Kyle Labanc fired a wrist shot from the top of the circle through Flinn's legs to put Barrie up 7-0. With less than two minutes to play in the frame, the Colts would add their eighth and final tally of the night as Labanc set up Justin Murray for the tap in.
The Steelheads fought hard in the third to spoil David Ovsjannikov's shutout bid, but despite a number of chances, they couldn't get one passed the Czech native as he stopped all 11 shots in the period as the Colts would take it by a final score of 8-0.
The Steelheads will have a few days to regroup before hosting the Oshawa Generals at the Hershey Centre this Friday, March 4.
