NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Colorado Avalanche dealt the National Hockey League rights to North Bay Battalion defenceman Kyle Wood to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday in a four-player deal in advance of the NHL trade deadline.

Veteran forward Alex Tanguay and centre Conner Bleackley of the Western Hockey League's Red Deer Rebels went with Wood to Arizona for forward Mikkel Boedker.

"I was at my billets, watching TV, watching the deadline and stuff in my basement," Wood said of when he learned of the trade.

Wood, a 19-year-old Waterloo, Ont., native who has played three-plus seasons with the Battalion, was a third-round selection by Colorado in the 2014 NHL Draft. He has eight goals and 27 assists for 35 points in 40 games this season.

Wood expressed "no hard feelings" toward the Avalanche organization.

"It was just something they had to do. I talked to a couple of their development guys. They said they needed to make a move for the playoffs and pick up Boedker.

"They helped me along the way. They helped me with a couple of camps I went to, and I was just thankful for everything they did."

Boedker has 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points in 62 games this season, while fellow left winger Tanguay has four goals and 18 assists for 22 points in 52 games.
