Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE- The Jacksonville Sharks (4-3) defeated the Maine Mammoths (1-5) on Saturday in a close battle with a 46-25 score. The game was back and forth all game, but the Sharks found out a way to come back and finish strong.

Sharks Quarterback Adrian McPherson ended the night playing all 60 minutes. He was 11-of-22 for 176 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. His top receiver was Chris Gilchrist, as he reeled in six catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Wide Receiver Tom Gilson also had a great night, having two receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown. Cody Saul was the third receiver to see the ball tonight, as he had two catches for 33 yards and one touchdown. Defensive Back Dallas Jackson finished the night leading the Sharks in tackles with eight. He also had one interception and two pass breakups. Defensive Back Brandon Roe wrapped up 4.5 tackles, one fumble recovery returned 39 yards for a touchdown. He also had one interception to help the Sharks come up with a victory.

On the first drive of the game, Mammoths Quarterback Jonathan Bane fumbled a snap, which was recovered by Damien Jacobs. The Sharks also came up empty as a bobbling pass was intercepted on the second play of the drive. The Mammoths would take advantage of that as Bane found Wide Receiver Edgar Poe Jr. for a two yard touchdown. Kicker Henry Nell attempted the second-ever Drop Kick in the NAL, but didn't successfully make the kick, which helped Jacksonville out by being down by only six points instead of eight. Just like the last meeting between these two teams, the Sharks were held to no points in the first quarter. Something that has changed since then is that the Mammoths scored 12 points, as Bane found Devin Wilson for a 14 yard touchdown with a missed PAT from Nell.

The second quarter was more back and forth, as they finally scored as Quarterback Adrian McPherson completed a 14 yard touchdown pass to Chris Gilchrist. Belcher's PAT was good. His first ever point since returning from a suspension. Bane then found Wilson again for a 13 yard touchdown. Nell's PAT was good to put the Mammoths up 19-7 with 5:41 to go in the first half. Derrick Ross finally showed the crowd what he was made of by rushing for a one yard touchdown and doing the lawnmower at midfield. To close the first half, Nell made a 34 yard field goal and put the Mammoths up 22-14.

In the third quarter, the Sharks started to get things going. Two plays into the second half, McPherson threw a bomb to Chris Gilchrist for a 30 yard touchdown. On the Mammoths drive, Bane fumbled yet another snap and it was picked up by Defensive Back Brandon Roe and returned for a 39 yard touchdown. A scoreless third quarter helped the Sharks in the second half. To open the concluding quarter, Nell made a 50 yard field goal to put the Mammoths at 25 points, but was still down by eight points. McPherson finished the next drive with a 30 yard touchdown to Gilson. Turnovers by the Sharks defense and scoring from the Sharks offense put the icing on the cake to finish the game 46-25.
