Lions Hit the Road Again for a Matchup in Lehigh Valley
May 19, 2018 - National Arena League (NAL)
Columbus Lions News Release
After last week's thrilling victory over the Carolina Cobras, the Columbus Lions (3-1) will travel to Lehigh Valley to take on the Steelhawks (0-5). Columbus is coming off a huge, last second victory and are looking to continue their momentum on the road.
The Steelhawks are still looking for their first victory on the season as they lost again last week to Jacksonville 44-17. It has been a bit of revolving door at the quarterback position for the Steelhawks, but they are led by Bryan Morris. Morris will look for a bounce back game to win that first game.
The Lions look to continue and try to stake their claim atop the NAL standings. A potent passing game will look to keep their success going on Sunday. Quarterback Mason Espinosa comes off a game last Saturday where he threw for seven touchdowns. Against the Steelhawks defense, Espinosa could have even a bigger day behind center. Leading receiver Jarmon Foster will be a player to watch. Fortson leads the team with 11 touchdowns on the season. Fortson had to acrobatic catches last Saturday against Carolina. He has emerged as Espinosa's favorite target here in the 2018 season. It will also be interesting to see how the Lions use HB/FB Quayvon Hicks. Hickes leads the league in average yards per attempt at a clip of 7.1. The former Georgia Bulldog has been a force to be reckoned in between the tackles. His big build causes headaches for opposing defenses attempting to bring him down, so look for the Lions to call his number late in games as defenses start to wear down.
Even though the Lehigh Valley has struggled this season, it is still a road game, and anything can happen. The Lions need to get off to a quick start early and keep the momentum the entire game to ensure they will fly home with a victory.
Kickoff is set for 6 pm EST on Sunday May 20.
