NAL Maine Mammoths

Second Half Woes Continue to Plague Mammoths

May 19, 2018 - National Arena League (NAL)
Maine Mammoths News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Maine Mammoths (2-4) went to Jacksonville to take on the defending NAL Champions, Jacksonville Sharks. The last time these two teams met, the Sharks beat the Mammoths 31-48. This time, the Sharks defeated the Mammots 46-25.

Tonight, Quarterback Jonathan Bane looked impressive, as he was 23-of-41 for 163 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Wide Receiver Devin Wilson suffered an injury just before halftime, but that didn't stop him from leaving the game for too long, as he recorded five receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Edgar Poe Jr. had a great game with over 10 receptions. He made 11 catches for 61 yards and one touchdown. Keiron Jones Sr. finished the night with four tackles and one fumble recovery.

The game started a little slow for the Mammoths, as Quarterback Jonathan Bane fumbled a snap to give Jacksonville the ball. Two plays later, Sharks Quarterback Adrian McPherson threw an interception to give the Mammoths their momentum back. It worked, as Bane threw a two yard touchdown to Edgar Poe Jr. The Drop-Kick from Kicker Henry Nell was no good.

The third quarter was all Jacksonville, as the Mammoths were unable to score any points. Sharks Wide Receiver Chris Gilchrist found the end zone for a deep touchdown pass. Another touchdown was scored by Sharks Defensive Back Brandon Roe from a 39 yard fumble recovery.

The fourth quarter was the quarter that was supposed to give this second half team life. Nell did just that to start the final quarter with a 50 yard field goal. Unfortunately for the Mammoths, those were the only points the Mammoths saw in the fourth quarter, and even in the second half. The Sharks kept scoring touchdowns and wasted time doing so. The game ended with a final score of 25-46 in the Sharks favor.

Players of the Game:

Offensive Player of the Game: Chris Gilchrist - Six receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns

Defensive Player of the Game - Brandon Roe - 4.5 tackles (one for a loss), one fumble recovered for a 39 yard touchdown, and one interception

Special Teams Player of the Game - Henry Nell - 1-of-2 PAT, 0-of-1 Drop-Kick, 2-of-2 Field Goal (32 yards, 50 yards)

The next Mammoths game is against the Massachusetts Pirates on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 7:00 pm (E.T.) for Country Night.
