SECC Announces Republic FC SEVAFest Winners

November 11, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release

On October 17, students from 17 schools in the region joined SRFC's Media and Community Investment teams to cover the match for SEVAFest, a competition hosted by the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium to give opportunities to students to test their media skills. Last week, SECC revealed the winners of the competition- Maddie and Michelle of Del Campo High School in Carmichael- whose piece focused on the dedication of Republic FC to its fan base and community.

Before, during, and following the Club's meeting with Tacoma Defiance, participating students got to experience match day just as they would as a member of the media covering the team. Credentials, information packets and more were distributed before the game, and participants even got the chance to hit club President and General Manager Todd Dunivant with some tough questions in an exclusive Q&A session ahead of kickoff.

Afterward, the group was able to cover the match from the press box and around the stadium to tell their story of Republic FC through news highlights, sizzle reels, and more multimedia pieces. Overall, the group combined to produce 20 entries for the competition, covering topics from the result of the match to the fan base and their love for soccer, Republic FC's reach into the community, and more. The winning entry was shown to fans ahead of the 2021 season finale on October 30.

"This is the way these careers start," said Scott Moak, Republic FC's VP of Community Investment. "It feels so good to have this group of students here getting the opportunity to experience this firsthand."

The match was SECC's second SEVAFest of 2021, following the event held at September's Capital Air Show in September. It is one of a grouping of additional events hosted by SECC each year to offer training in media and skills students can use regardless of their eventual career path.

"Giving our kids the chance to see potential careers in these fields is huge," said Rebecca Long, a teacher at California Middle School who attended the day's events. "I'd like to thank SEVA and SECC for the opportunity to give our students these real-world experiences."
