
RGV FC Looking for Another History Making Moment in the Semifinal Round of the USL Championship Playoffs

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (1-0-0) will move on to the semifinal round of the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs, Presented by TwinSpires, for the first time ever in franchise history. The Toros continue playoff contention on Saturday, November 13 at 8:00 pm CST at Toyota Field where they will take on San Antonio FC.
RGV FC: In a penalty shootout with Phoenix Rising FC, RGV clinched its first ever pass to the semifinal round of playoffs with a 3-3 (4-3pks) score. The Toros took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with a goal from Baboucarr Njie. Phoenix Rising FC equalized the match in the 23rd minute after an RGV foul from Njie. The foul granted Rising a free kick which was taken by Solomon Asante. Asante took a right footed shot straight into the bottom right corner of the RGV net. After connecting with Luis Seijas, Arturo Rodriguez obtained a 2-1 lead for Phoenix in the 54th minute. In the 69th minute Christian Sorto won a free kick for RGV just outside of the penalty kick area. Rodrigo Lopez took the shot for the team and scored off a free kick for the second consecutive game equalizing the match 2-2. As the game went into overtime, Asante scored the game leading goal in the 101st minute which gave Phoenix a 3-2 lead. But RGV would counterattack in the 107th minute as Vicente Sanchez was fouled in the penalty box granting RGV a penalty kick. Elvis Amoh took the kick for the Toros and put it straight into the bottom right corner of the goal to tie the match 3-3. After extra time, the match went into penalty kicks where Njie, Emilio Ycaza, Erik Pimentel and Amoh scored the four goals for RGV while Jon Bakero, Aodhan Quinn and Joseph Farell scored the three for Phoenix. Colin Miller played a big part in the team's win as he made four saves for the night, two being penalty shots.
SA: San Antonio clinched a pass to the second round of playoffs after defeating San Diego Loyal 2-0. San Antonio's Nathan Fogaça scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute off a header which was assisted by Mohammed Abu. Following a corner nine minutes after came the second goal of the match by San Antonio's Santiago Patiño resulting in a 2-0 win for San Antonio. San Diego led the match with 15 total shots, one and target while their opponent totaled 11 shots, three on target.
