
SeaWolves Win Series Opener Over Curve 6-3

The SeaWolves started the post-All-Star portion of their schedule with a series opening win over the Altoona Curve, 6-3, on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The Curve struck for a run in the top of the second against Erie starter Jay Voss. Andrew Lambo led off and connected on a solo home run for a 1-0 Curve edge.
Erie quickly responded in the bottom of the second against Altoona starter Michael Colla. Bryan Pounds led off with double down the left field line and scored on an Audy Ciriaco base hit, tying the game 1-1. Ciriaco stole second and reached third on a Michael Bertram single. Brandon Douglas singled home Ciriaco giving the 'Wolves 2-1 lead. Bertram would score on a one-out Shawn Roof groundout giving Erie a 3-1 advantage.
Altoona came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Lambo and Tony Sanchez drew back-to-back walks and advanced into scoring position on a Matt Curry groundout. Kris Watts singled home Lambo and Brad Chalk singled home Sanchez, tying the game 3-3.
Erie regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ciriaco led off and crushed his fourth home run of the season. The solo blast gave the SeaWolves a 4-3 lead.
The SeaWolves added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Anthony Claggett. With one out, Bertram and Douglas each singled. Bryan Holaday sent a liner to right that drew chalk hitting the line, plating both pinch runner Francisco Martinez and Douglas giving the 'Wolves a 6-3 lead.
Voss (5-4) earned the win tossing six innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Luis Marte picked up his first save tossing three scoreless innings, preserving the Erie win. Marte allowed a hit to lead off the seventh and retired the final nine hitters of the game.
The SeaWolves continue a four-game series against Altoona on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park.7:05 First Pitch. RHP Jacob Turner (3-3, 3.49 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Kyle McPherson (2-3, 3.58 ERA).
