SeaWolves Shut out Ducks to Win Series

The SeaWolves notched their fourth series win of the season as they took down the Akron RubberDucks on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park by a 6-0 final. It was Erie's second shutout win of the season and first since May 12 when the shut out the Ducks at UPMC Park 4-0.

Erie struck in the top of the first inning against Akron starter Eli Lingos. Riley Greene led off with a walk and Drew Ward was hit by a pitch with two outs. Andre Lipcius doubled home both runners for a 2-0 lead. Josh Lester followed with an RBI double that scored Lipcius for a 3-0 lead.

The SeaWolves added to their lead in the second. Jon Rosoff and Greene connected on back-to-back singles with one out. Ryan Kreidler singled home Rosoff for a 4-0 advantage. Kerry Carpenter then reached on a fielder's choice and picked up an RBI as Greene slid around a tag at the plate for a 5-0 lead.

The 'Wolves went ahead 6-0 in the top of the sixth when Lipcius crushed a solo home run to center. It was his first Double-A home run after belting out three with Class-A West Michigan before joining Erie.

Erie starter Pedro Payano (2-1) earned the win. He went a season-high six scoreless innings allowing two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Lingos (3-1) took the loss allowing five runs on five hits with a walk and no strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Cale Coshow and Henry Martinez combined to toss three shutout innings in relief to preserve the shutout.

The SeaWolves pitching staff combined to allow four hits in the game. All four hits were singles.
