Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats set a franchise record with five home runs, including a walk-off blast from catcher Javier Guevara, as they battled back to beat the Bowie Baysox in a 13-11 slugfest on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford. Trailing 7-0 before they came to bat in the first inning and 9-2 after two innings, the Yard Goats got homers from Matt McLaughlin, Elehuris Montero, Sean Bouchard and a pair of long balls from Javier Guevara to win consecutive games against the first place Baysox. Bowie hit four homers and led 11-7 in the fifth inning but Hartford scored the final six runs of the game on three two-run homers. It was the final game of a six-game homestand for the Yard Goats.
The Baysox scored seven runs in the first inning off Hartford starter Matt Dennis. Jay Ortiz got the scoring going with a two-run home run along with an RBI single by Robert Neustrom and a pair of two-run doubles by Dorin Turchin and Terrin Vavra.
The Yard Goats got a leadoff home run by Matt McLaughlin in the bottom of the first inning, and an RBI double by Coco Montes to make it a 7-2 game after one inning. The Baysox made it 9-2 on Johnny Rizer's two-run homer in the second inning.
Hartford scored five runs off Orioles prospect and Bowie starter Mike Baumann in the third inning and chased him from the game. Montero cranked a two-run homer, Greg Jones had a bases loaded walk and Matt Horn contributed with a two-run double to make it a 9-7. The Baysox added two more runs to take an 11-7 lead on solo homers by Adley Rutschmann and Chris Hudgins in the fourth and fifth innings.
However, the Yard Goats would score the final six runs of the contest on three two-run homers. Javier Guevara had a pinch-hit two run homer in the fifth to make it an 11-9 game. Next, Sean Bouchard smashed a two run homer in the sixth inning to tie the game at 11-11. Then Guevara struck again with a two-run walkoff home run in the ninth inning off reliever Gray Fenter.
The Yard Goats will begin a 12-game road trip on Tuesday in Reading, Pennsylvania and play the first of a six-game series against the Fightin Phils (7:05PM).
