
SeaWolves Announce 2013 Promotions

(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers, have released the club's 2013 promotional calendar. The 19th season of SeaWolves baseball begins Thursday, April 4 as the team hosts the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 6:35 p.m. Gates will open early at 4 p.m. so fans can watch pre-game batting practice.
This season's slate of events features 11 fireworks shows including Independence Day Fireworks presented by the Pennsylvania Lottery on Wednesday, July 3. The first fireworks show of the season will take place on Friday, May 3 when the SeaWolves host Altoona at 7:05 p.m. on Super Hero Night. Fans are encouraged to attend the game dressed as their favorite comic book super hero.
On Thursday, July 11, the SeaWolves will welcome former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andy Van Slyke for a VIP Meet & Greet and one-hour autograph session presented by the Clarion Lake Erie and Bel Aire Conference Center. Fans will have the opportunity to meet Van Slyke, a three-time MLB All-Star, a five-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, and a member of the Pirates' most recent playoff squad (1992). Fans can contact the SeaWolves ticket office at 814.456.1300 to purchase a limited number of VIP picnic tickets. Previous celebrity VIP events have sold out.
The SeaWolves have several notable giveaways on the schedule this season. On Friday, July 26, the first 1,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of 2012 SeaWolves flame-thrower Bruce Rondon. With a fastball clocked as high as 104 mph, Rondon is currently competing to be the closer of the Detroit Tigers. The first 1,000 fans (ages 13 & older) on Saturday, May 25 and Friday, June 28 will each receive a free SeaWolves T-shirt compliments of Time Warner Cable and Erie County Recycling respectively. The season's final giveaway, a drawstring backpack designed to look like a SeaWolves home jersey, will go to the first 1,000 fans courtesy of Pepsi on Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, August 31.
Many of the SeaWolves top season-long promotions will return in 2013. Every Monday home game will feature Buck Night concession specials with Smith's hot dogs, Pepsi soft drinks, popcorn and select draft beers including Budweiser for just $1 each. Reserved seat tickets will be $5 for each Buck Night (while supplies last) and advance purchase is highly recommended. The first of this season's nine Buck Nights will take place on Monday, April 8.
Kids Eat Free Night is back for every Tuesday game this season. The first 500 kids (ages 12 & under) through the gates at each Tuesday game will be treated to a free Smith's hot dog, a bag of Utz potato chips and a Pepsi fountain drink. Other returning day-of-the-week promotions include AAA Member Wednesdays (AAA members save $2 on tickets at the Ticket Office), Northwest Thursdays (Northwest Savings Bank customers save $2 per ticket at the Ticket Office with their debit or credit card), Early Bird Fridays ($2 drink specials in the Bud Light Beer Garden until first pitch), and Kids Crew Sundays. Kids 12 & under can register for the SeaWolves Kids Crew for free and receive a free youth ticket to every Sunday home game this season.
The SeaWolves will once again work with sponsors and community organizations to champion local causes. The SeaWolves and UPMC Health Plan will host "Paint the Park Pink" during the weekend of June 7-9 as the players will wear commemorative pink uniforms to be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Regional Cancer Center and the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation. The weekend includes a pink cap giveaway to the first 1,000 fans on Friday, June 7 and fireworks on Saturday, June 8.
The SeaWolves will celebrate Flagship Niagara Night on Friday, July 12 to support and promote the 2013 Tall Ships Festival coming to Erie in September. The SeaWolves will sport special jerseys featuring a photo of the Flagship Niagara, and each jersey will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Flagship Niagara League.
A variety of experiential promotions are scheduled for the upcoming season. Dog owners can bring their leashed pets to the game for Bark at the Park Night on Tuesday, June 4. The team will host its annual Boy Scout Camp Out after the game on Friday, June 28. The game on June 28 also will feature an Environmental Expo and the SeaWolves' annual Mascot Mania festivities. The SeaWolves also will host a new event on Thursday, August 8, The Night of Many Meats, featuring a special picnic menu that will give fans the opportunity to try a variety of regional delicacies. Select fans will also have the opportunity to compete in a SPAM-carving contest during the game.
Super-Mega-Prize-a-Thon returns for a second season, so fans will have the chance on Friday, August 30 to win one of many memorable prizes. Past prizes have included Detroit Tigers tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, Visa gift cards, sardines and all-natural clam juice. The SeaWolves will also orchestrate a major giveaway on a date to be determined when the team welcomes the four-millionth fan in SeaWolves history. The four-millionth fan will receive a major prize pack from participating SeaWolves sponsors including a year's worth of Pepsi.
