Seattle Storm News Release
SEATTLE, May 4, 2011 - Two of Seattle's best organizations - the WNBA champion Seattle Storm, and Blue Nile (NASDAQ: NILE), the world's premier online jeweler - have come together to create the Storm's 2010 championship ring. Designed by Blue Nile, the ring, named The Arena, symbolizes the close kinship between the Storm and the amazing fans who were vital to the team's record-setting 2010 season.
Storm All-Stars Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson were on hand Wednesday to unveil the stunning ring, which will be given to players in a special pregame ceremony on Storm Opening Day, June 4, 2011.
"The symbols of elite teams deserve to be created using the highest standards of craftsmanship," said Seattle Storm President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Bryant. "With that in mind, we selected Blue Nile to create our 2010 championship ring. Our organizations profoundly respect one another due to shared values of hard work, commitment to fans and customers, dedication to excellence, and a love for Seattle."
The championship ring, the leading online jeweler's first ring crafted for a professional sports team, is made of luminous white gold and paved with exquisite Blue Nile diamonds. The arena portion of the ring presents the iconic Storm "S" surrounded by the 2010 championship year. One shank of the ring displays the WNBA logo and the recipient's name. On the second shank are the WNBA championship trophy and the Storm's historic, record-setting season, with 28 victories against only six losses.
"We're honored to create this magnificent ring for the Seattle Storm, our hometown team and an organization we admire," said Blue Nile Chief Executive Officer Diane Irvine. "Much like the Storm, we strive for perfection with every piece of fine jewelry we create."
The presentation of the championship rings will be only one highlight of a very special Opening Day when the Storm hosts the Phoenix Mercury and the fan community comes together to celebrate the champions. Opening Day is presented by Blue Nile, and during the game, Storm fans will learn how one person will win a championship ring of their own.
