SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm reported today that All-Star forward Lauren Jackson had successful surgery on her right ankle. Jackson's medical procedure took place in Sydney, Australia yesterday.

Jackson, who led the WNBA in scoring for the second straight year, underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right ankle to remove bone spurs. She also received lateral ankle ligament reconstruction. She will recuperate with her family in Albury, Australia.

"We're glad Lauren has had the surgery to correct the pain in her foot that bothered her at the end of the season," Storm Head Coach Anne Donovan said. "We realize it was something she needed done and we wish her a speedy recovery in the comforts of her home. I will be checking in with her frequently during the offseason to monitor her progress and rehabilitation. I look forward to having a healthy Lauren Jackson for the Storm's 2005 season so she can maintain her status as one of the game's greatest players."

Jackson, the 2003 WNBA MVP, led the league in scoring with an average of 20.5 points per game. She led the Australian National Team to the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. A three-time All-Star with the Storm since being drafted first overall in 2001, Jackson helped guide the Storm to the 2004 WNBA Championship, the franchise's first title and the city of Seattle's first major professional sports title since the 1978-79 Seattle SuperSonics.

The Seattle Sonics & Storm manages the Puget Sound region's professional basketball franchises – the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA's Seattle Storm. The organization oversees all sales, marketing, finance, public relations and basketball operations for the teams. The Basketball Club of Seattle LLC, a local group of private investors led by Seattle-based entrepreneur Howard Schultz, owns both teams.
