SEATTLE (January 29, 2015) - Seattle Reign FCannounced today that the club has signed Scottish international defender Rachel Corsie, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Corsie, 25, joins Reign FC after spending last season with Notts County Ladies F.C. of the FA WSL, the top tier in the English women's football league system. Rachel made 22 appearances (22 starts) across all competitions for the Lady Magpies and helped anchor a backline that only allowed eight goals in 14 league matches.
"Rachel is a terrific player who will bring depth and experience to our backline," Reign FC general manager and coach Laura Harvey said. "She will make the entire defensive unit stronger by providing us flexibility we lacked last season. We are excited to have her with the club and know she will make an impact."
Prior to joining Notts County, Corsie spent four seasons with Glasgow City F.C. of the Scottish Women's Premier League. She made 135 appearances, scored 41 goals, and earned domestic treble success, winning the Scottish Premiere League title, the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup, and the Scottish Women's Cup in 2009, 2012 and 2013.
Corsie also brings a wealth of national team experience to Reign FC. She has been a member of the Scottish Women's National team since 2009, playing alongside Reign FC forward and 2014 NWSL MVP Kim Little. The Aberdeen, Scotland native has amassed 70 career caps, 13 goals, and recently took part in Scotland's UEFA qualifying campaign for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
