Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE (May 8, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC announced today that forward Mele French and goalkeeper Caroline Stanley have been added to the 20-player roster as amateur call ups for tomorrow's match against Sky Blue FC at 4 p.m. PT at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.
Amateur players French and Stanley will provide Reign FC with roster depth as call-ups for forward Megan Rapinoe and goalkeeper Hope Solo who have international duty with the U.S. Women's National Team.
French, 30, is a University of Oregon alumna and was a non-roster trialist with Seattle during the preseason. She was named the W-League's Most Valuable Player in 2014 while playing with the LA Blues, finishing second in points and third in goals last season.
The Mililani, Hawai'i native has also spent stints with Sky Blue FC (during the team's Women's Professional Soccer era), and the German-side SC Freiburg in the second division of the women's Bundesliga, among others.
"She's an intelligent player," Reign FC head coach Laura Harvey said. "She knows what to do and when to do it, and I think she just adds some depth to our already strong midfield."
Stanley, 22, is a 2014 graduate from the University of Southern California where she played three seasons with the Trojans after transferring from Missouri after her freshman season. In her senior season with USC she earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honors twice to help lead the team to the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament.
On Stanley head coach Laura Harvey said, "Caroline has been with our group since the start of pre season and we always envisioned her stepping in when Hope was away with the U.S. Women's National Team. She has progressed well throughout her time here and we are happy she has stepped up."
