Norfolk Admirals News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Norfolk Admirals lose their sixth consecutive road game Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena in a 4-2 defeat to the Manchester Monarchs.
The Monarchs were first to capitalize at 2:36 when Zac Larraza scored his fifth goal of the season, just as Samuel Noreau left the penalty box for slashing. Larraza received the puck from Matt White, who maintained possession at the top of the left circle. Larraza then drove it in near the left side of Norfolk netminder Ty Rimmer's net.
As soon as the Admirals killed another penalty, Monarch forward Maxim Kitsyn also scored his fifth of the year when he beat Rimmer from the bottom of the right wing circle at 12:55. Manchester ended the period on top, 2-0.
With 1:38 left in the second frame, Norfolk rookie Quinn Smith tightened the margin by one when he scored his first professional goal. As Monarch center Gasper Kopitar tried to clear the puck out of their zone, Smith had a quick shot in the slot, which found its way to the back of the net, unassisted.
The Admirals evened the count, 2-2, during a man advantage at 3:19 in the final period. Tommy Mele's shot deflected off Manchester goalie Michael Houser's pads. As Houser failed to cover up the puck, Steven Whitney was there at the crease to stuff it in.
The Monarchs answered at 11:32 when Larraza picked up his second goal of the day by taking advantage of a bounce behind Rimmer's net. Kitsyn went on to score an unassisted empty-netter with 13.4 seconds left, concluding their three-game weekend with another victory over the Admirals, 4-2.
Rimmer blocked 37 out of 40 shots on Norfolk's net, while Houser managed to keep out 27 out of 29 attempts, earning him the third star of the game. Manchester went scoreless on 8 power play opportunities, as the Admirals went 1-for-6.
The Admirals will head back to Norfolk for a Wednesday night contest against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 7:15 p.m.
Three stars:
1. MAN 15-Zac Larraza
2. MAN 20-Matt White
3. MAN 29 G-Michael Houser
